The Influence of Lake Level Fluctuations on Fisheries in Lake Van

The impact of hydrological regimes on the productivity in lake ecosystems has received considerable attention recent decades. This study tested hypothesis that water level fluctuations influence fisheries Lake Van. Monthly data from 2000 to 2014 were obtained Hydroweb and corresponding same time period acquired Turkish Statistical Institute. In order test whether demonstrated significant concordance with fish landings, landings as a dependent variable, seasonal amplitude mean annual independent variables used linear regression analysis. analysis proved insignificant results. general trend decline, rate -575 tonnes per year, observed did not match inter-annual variations which occurred during period. consistently declining yields might result prolonged overexploitation and/or constant recruitment failure. estimated values relative fluctuation index (0.402 0.097, respectively) rather low indicating Van is hydrologically stable limited aquatic/terrestrial transition zone interactions relatively nutrient load.
